Favicon.ico history and tutorial can be found here.

For no apparent reason the world has taken a very large interest in the little file known as favicon.ico which is a program that was created by Microsoft in 1999 and can be found at the following address http://www.favicon.cc/ which contains a favicon generator.

Favicon.ico which is now simply known as favicon is a tiny 16×16 pixels picture/icon that represents a website and is place on the top left side of the browser just before the name of the site – for example Ziqum’s favicon is the bold blue Z that can be seen above.

Originally the favicon was a tool that users could use to bookmark the websites that they have just visited, nowadays it serves nothing more than a logo.

Now that you know everything there is to know, enjoy a tutorial put together by two brilliant minds on how to create a favicon for your site.
